Artist: Gorillaz
Song Title: Glitter Freeze
Genre: Electronic
Description: Plastic Beach was a great album with songs like Stylo, Superfast Jellyfish and On Melancholy Hill. But this song, Glitter Freeze, was definitely overlooked and not given enough attention. The Gorillaz show a different more electronic side of their work with this song and it really is a masterpiece.
Artist: Outkast
Song Title: Slum Beautiful
Genre: Hip Hop
Description: Stankonia. One of the best albums I've ever heard with classics like Ms. Jackson, Bombs over Baghdad, and So Fresh So Clean. This song never really got that much attention, but it really is one of the best songs on the album. One thing that has always made Outkast different from other hip hop groups is the fact that Andre 3000 sings as well as raps and that combination is brought out almost perfectly in this song.
Artist: Madvillain (MF Doom & Madlib)
Song Title: Monkey Suite
Genre: Hip Hop
Description: Madlib is arguably one of the best hip hop producers in business and MF Doom is one of the sickest MC's lyrically by far. The beat itself brings a different type of feel, it's dark but at the same time it's not depressing or morose. It's simply dark, which is definitely MF Doom's forte. His voice fits the beat perfectly, but even more impressive is his flow. He continuously raps throughout the entire song, without a hook, chorus or anything. This is hip hop at its best, a great producer and a sick lyrical MC teaming up together to make what should be considered a classic. If you enjoy this, then you should definitely check out the entire album, 'Madvillainy', which can be found on iTunes.
Artist: Kanye West Featuring GLC & Consequence
Song Title: Spaceship
Genre: Hip Hop
Description: College Dropout. What can be said about this album that hasn't already been said? It won a shit ton of grammies, and had some of the biggest hits back in the day. Classics like Jesus Walks, All Falls Down, Through the Wire and Slow Jamz all got the attention that they deserved but this one passed under the radar. Spaceship is Kanye's ode to being poor and trying to make it in life. The beat is simple and very calm, contrary to Kanye's rapping ("If my manager insults me again, I will be assaulting him") but it works great. GLC and Consequence also make an appearance on the track to create a song for the ages.
Well that's all for today. I'm trying out embedding videos on the blog instead of giving you links. It would be great to get some feedback on this change, on whether or not to keep it or go back to giving links. Till tomorrow.
Peace.
