December 30, 2010

Hey guys, sorry for the lapse in posts but I got a bit busy over the last few days. Anyways to make up I'll put up 6 songs today, although I won't be putting the videos on the page. Here you go.

Hudson Mohawke - Fuse
Artist: Hudson Mohawke
Song Title: Fuse
Genre: Electronic
Description: This is a slowish electronic song, but can definitely get the party going if the speakers are loud enough. Its got a great electronic feel to it, and could be dubsteppy, but its not. It's just quality electronic music.

Digitalism - I Want I Want
Artist: Digitalism
Song Title: I Want I Want
Genre: Electronic/Indie
Description: Digitalism is a French band who kind of switch frequently between the genres of Indie and Electronic and this song is definitely a fusion song between those two genres. To those of you who like both genres? This is perfect for you.

Gorillaz - Tomorrow Comes Today
Artist: Gorillaz
Song Title: Tomorrow Comes Today
Genre: Alternative
Description: Sometimes I forget that the Gorillaz have been making hits for so long, but then this amazing song from their 2003 album, 'Gorillaz' plays on my itunes while shuffling and I remember all over again. The deep hip hop beat with vocals and background music just works perfectly to give an ultimate chill song.

Jude Sebastian - Rubber Man (Miles Dyson Remix)
Artist: Jude Sebastian
Song Title: Rubber Man (Miles Dyson Remix)
Genre: Electro
Description: This is definitely a party song. There's no doubt about, Miles Dyson created this song for people to go crazy. It's a great song until about 3 minutes after which it drops and becomes AMAZING. One of my favorite electro songs for sure.

Dirty Rich - Dirty
Artist: Dirty Rich
Song Title: Dirty
Genre: Electro
Description: This song definitely fits its name. It is dirty. You may not get that sense from the lead up for the first 2 minutes, but after that I'm sure there will be no doubt in anyone's mind that this song is grime dirty. The drop is sick and the song continues on perfectly and is sure to have everyone jumping.

La Roux - Bulletproof (Foamo Remix)
Artist: La Roux
Song Title: Bulletproof (Foamo Remix)
Genre: Electro
Description: The amount that this song has been remixed is ridiculous, and the amount that La Roux has been remixed is even more ridiculous, but most ridiculous of all? This song. It really is a song that will have everyone jumping guaranteed. The heavy bass and the fast pace really make for a great dancefloor destroyer.

Well hope you enjoyed today's post. Once again sorry for the lack of posts for the last couple days but I'll definitely have some crazy songs tomorrow to usher in the new year. Have a great evening!

Peace.

December 28, 2010

Hola, here are el songs.

Artist: Just Jack
Song Title: Basement
Genre: Electronic/Alternative
Description: I tried to find this song on youtube, but couldn't so I did you guys a HUGE favor and uploaded it myself. It may get taken down because it has copyrighted material but as long as you can view it, it's all good. Now, about the song. Just Jack isn't known as being too much of a DJ, more of a vocalist but this is definitely a piece worth listening to. The guitar and the synths in the background are a great combination and although the song has no vocals, it really is a great listen.

Artist: Handsome Boy Modeling School Featuring Rza, The Mars Volta, AG, and Tim Meadows
Song Title: A Day in the Life
Genre: Hip Hop
Description: Handsome Boy Modeling School is a collaboration between the producer of De La Soul, Prince Paul, and 'Dan the Automator'. This combination has come out with a variety of great songs, but this is definitely one of my favorite. The beat has an old school feel to it, and the all the rappers on the track really compliment that old school feel. Rza of the Wu Tang Clan is sick on this track and the vocal chorus that The Mars Volta adds completes the track, making a great hip hop collaboration.

Artist: Pin Me Down
Song Title: Time Crisis (Co-Pilots Turbulence Remix)
Genre: Electronic/House
Description: Once again a song that I had to upload to youtube because I couldn't find it on there. No thanks necessary. This is a house-ish remix of the original song, although it does have a heavy electronic feel to it. Pin Me Down is a collaboration of Bloc Party's guitarist Russell Lissack and singer Milena Mepris. The original is a good song, but I feel that this really is a great remix simply because of the feel it gives. I really couldn't decide whether this was more housey or electronic so I labeled it as both. Since I can't really describe it that well, check it out. It's a great song.

Artist: The Faint
Song Title: Mirror Error (Afghan Raiders Remix)
Genre: Electronic
Description: Once again, something I uploaded. To be perfectly honest, there isn't a HUGE difference between the original and this remix, but it has a certain 'je ne sais quoi' which I feel makes it 10 times better. I think that the layout that the Afghan Raiders used is much better, it is much more cohesive as a song and it just works better. Once again, not the most adequate description but let's be honest you're not looking at this blog for the descriptions are you?

That's all for today guys. And if I don't find the songs I want on youtube then I'll just upload them so that you guys can access them easier. But yeah, hope you enjoyed.

Peace.

December 27, 2010

Hello all, here are today's songs.

Artist: The Streets
Song Title: Turn The Page
Genre: Hip Hop
Description: The Streets, Mike Skinner, has always had a very unique style in his rapping. This is generally what draws people towards his music. The beats that he generally uses are very unorthodox in their nature and his rapping can sometimes be conceived as simply speaking over the track, but that is exactly where his charm is. The key to listening to a track by Mike Skinner is to focus more on his lyrics than the beat. You can tell because similarly to MF Doom and more lyrical MC's, there is no hook or chorus. It is simply lyrics and a beat. Painfully simple, but complex all the same.

Artist: Phantogram
Song Title: Mouthful of Diamonds
Genre: Electronic/Alternative
Description: Phantogram as a duo is perfect. The two come together to make a great combination of soulful voice and great beats. As one can notice the drum beat is somewhat hip hop-ish while the guitar and the synths are the furthest thing possible from hip hop. And then there is the voice. As I said about Moocha's voice in my first post, her voice is haunting. It really stays with you and you just want to hear more. At least that's how I feel.

Artist: Slum Village
Song Title: Players
Genre: Hip Hop
Description: How can you go wrong when you have production genius J Dilla on the beat and lyrical wordsmiths like Baatin, T3 and Elzhi on the track? Answer: You can't. This beat is definitely some of J Dilla's finest work, but then again that can be said about a variety of his tracks. Personally I think that this track works because of the smooth beat along with the 'smooth like butter' flow that accompanies it. Slum Village was definitely some of old school hip hop's finest. Rest in Peace J Dilla and Baatin, you are missed.

Artist: Just Jack
Song Title: Embers (30cm Remix)
Genre: Alternative
Description: Just Jack made a great song in Embers, and somehow 30cm has made it better in my opinion. Although I really enjoy the original, it felt like something was missing and whatever it was 30cm has been able to fill that void and as the video says 'fulfill the potential' of the song. I had my doubts at first, but as soon as the song starts and there is a beat to go with the strings all my doubts were put to rest. This is a great song.

Hope you enjoyed today's post. Check back tomorrow!

Peace.

December 26, 2010

What's up guys, sorry for the lateness again. I'm trying to keep a specific time to making the daily blogs but everyday is a different day. Here are today's songs though.

Artist: Spencer & Hill
Song Title: Dub Disco (Lucky Date Remix)
Genre: Electro
Description: This is definitely Electro at its best. The general tune is upbeat and the lead up isn't too short or too long. The drop at 1:30 is to die for. It's absolutely ridiculous and is sure to get everybody up and jumping. Not only is the electro absolutely amazing, but towards the ending Lucky Date have added a short dubstep bit which actually works perfectly into the song. Overall I would say that this is definitely a tune to watch out for in the clubs or pretty much anywhere where dancing is expected.

Artist: A.M. Architect
Song Title: Upon
Genre: Electronic
Description: After that last crazy electro song, here' some chillout music. When first listening to this it may seem like there's a lot going on and a lot to try and focus on, but forget trying to focus on simply one thing and embrace the entire song as it is. This is definitely one of those songs for a slow morning after a night out. Instead of Upon I would have suggested 'Recovery' as the title but hey, maybe thats just me. Definitely check out their entire album, which can be found on iTunes.

Artist: Jonny L
Song Title: 1 N 2
Genre: Drum & Bass
Description: One of my favorite DnB tracks. Not because it's mental or because the drop is absolutely grimey, but because it's simple and it works. There are very few elements to this song. There is the drum beat, the vocals, synthesizers in the background along with a synth lead which makes the song perfect. One can even hear a slight accordion that's been thrown in and once again, it works. If you're looking for dirty drum n bass this isn't the song. This is the opposite, it's cleeeean and it's soooo good.

Artist: Reks, Termanology & Krumbsnatcha
Song Title: Big Dreamers (Lawtown Remix)
Genre: Hip Hop
Description: I really honestly feel that there should be more hip hop artists like Reks, Termanology and Krumbsnatcha in the world today. Personally, I think that this is the direction in which hip hop should be going. Great beats, great lyrics and great flow. All together, you have a song that doesn't feel at all like commercial hip hop. You get a feel for old school hip hop, while keeping the beats complex and today-esque as well as the lyrics. Definitely check out more of Reks' stuff, the entire album is something to definitely get. 'Grey Hairs' is the name of the album and the way that Reks raps? You would guess that he has been in the hip hop game for a while and is definitely showing his wisdom.

That's all for today.

Peace.

December 25, 2010

Merry Christmas! Here are your presents. For today's post, I'm gonna put up great songs that didn't get the attention they deserve, so here you go.

Artist: Gorillaz
Song Title: Glitter Freeze
Genre: Electronic
Description: Plastic Beach was a great album with songs like Stylo, Superfast Jellyfish and On Melancholy Hill. But this song, Glitter Freeze, was definitely overlooked and not given enough attention. The Gorillaz show a different more electronic side of their work with this song and it really is a  masterpiece.

Artist: Outkast
Song Title: Slum Beautiful
Genre: Hip Hop
Description: Stankonia. One of the best albums I've ever heard with classics like Ms. Jackson, Bombs over Baghdad, and So Fresh So Clean. This song never really got that much attention, but it really is one of the best songs on the album. One thing that has always made Outkast different from other hip hop groups is the fact that Andre 3000 sings as well as raps and that combination is brought out almost perfectly in this song.

Artist: Madvillain (MF Doom & Madlib)
Song Title: Monkey Suite
Genre: Hip Hop
Description: Madlib is arguably one of the best hip hop producers in business and MF Doom is one of the sickest MC's lyrically by far. The beat itself brings a different type of feel, it's dark but at the same time it's not depressing or morose. It's simply dark, which is definitely MF Doom's forte. His voice fits the beat perfectly, but even more impressive is his flow. He continuously raps throughout the entire song, without a hook, chorus or anything. This is hip hop at its best, a great producer and a sick lyrical MC teaming up together to make what should be considered a classic. If you enjoy this, then you should definitely check out the entire album, 'Madvillainy', which can be found on iTunes.

Artist: Kanye West Featuring GLC & Consequence
Song Title: Spaceship
Genre: Hip Hop
Description: College Dropout. What can be said about this album that hasn't already been said? It won a shit ton of grammies, and had some of the biggest hits back in the day. Classics like Jesus Walks, All Falls Down, Through the Wire and Slow Jamz all got the attention that they deserved but this one passed under the radar. Spaceship is Kanye's ode to being poor and trying to make it in life. The beat is simple and very calm, contrary to Kanye's rapping ("If my manager insults me again, I will be assaulting him") but it works great. GLC and Consequence also make an appearance on the track to create a song for the ages.

Well that's all for today. I'm trying out embedding videos on the blog instead of giving you links. It would be great to get some feedback on this change, on whether or not to keep it or go back to giving links. Till tomorrow.

Peace.

December 24, 2010

Flux Pavilion - Voscilate
Artist: Flux Pavilion
Song Title: Voscilate
Genre: Dubstep
Description: Not much to say, a great dubstep track check it out.

Christopher S - You Make Me Feel High
Artist: Christopher S
Song Title: You Make Me Feel High
Genre: Electro
Description: A great song by Christopher S. The only problem that I really have with this song and Christopher S in general is that almost every single one of his songs sound exactly the same. Other than that, this is a great song so check it out.

Sorry for the short post today but I'm in a bit of a rush. Expect more tomorrow!

Peace.

December 23, 2010

Sorry about the lateness, haven't really had the time to post today but here are 5 songs that are sure to make up for it. I'm in an Electro-y kind of mood, so I present 5 ridiculously good Electro House songs.

Touch Down - In The Air (Featuring Big Daddi) (Radio Edit)
Artist: Touch Down (Featuring Big Daddi)
Song Title: In The Air
Genre: Electro
Description: This is a great song. The lyrics are somewhat repetitive and the theme is slightly unoriginal and reminiscent of 493875 other songs, but these are the last things on your mind when the song comes on. You'll be too busy throwing your hands in the air, running to the dance floor or just plain jumping up and down to this massive tune!

Felguk - Whatever Clever (Dirtyloud Remix)
Artist: Felguk
Song Title: Whatever Clever (Dirtyloud Remix)
Genre: Electro
Description: Felguk came out with a great song in 'Whatever Clever' but it was missing something. Then I heard the Dirtyloud Remix and they got it perfect. It was missing a punch, which is definitely delivered in this remix. Its great leading up to the main drop of the song, and then the drop takes place and BOOM. There's that punch, right in the face.

Thomas Duluc - Stupid Drinker (Dermot Bateman Remix)
Artist: Thomas Duluc
Song Title: Stupid Drinker (Dermot Bateman Remix)
Genre: Electro
Description: Dermot Bateman really has done a great job with this track. Although this link is 4 minutes, the actual entire song (which can be found on iTunes) is 8 and a half minutes of great production. It'll have you bobbing your head throughout. Well maybe not throughout because it IS 8 and a half minutes long. I really like what he's done with the track, creating an absolute dance floor destroyer, while not keeping to the norms of today's Electro hits (monotonous single beeping noises as drops). Definitely an artist to watch out for in the future. You can check out his soundcloud account here.

Lee Mortimer vs M&S - Bootsoul Nugget
Artist: Lee Mortimer and M&S
Song Title: Bootsoul Nugget
Genre: Electro
Description: This is definitely one of my favorite Electro songs ever. As an avid fan of dubstep, I really enjoy hearing good 'drops' as well as good WHOMP WHOMP which this track has. And its not dubstep! Lee Mortimer and M&S have made a great gateway from dubstep to house. For anybody who really enjoys dubstep, definitely give this song a try and tell me you don't like it. I extend this offer to anybody. I dare you.

Skrillex - Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites (Zedd Remix)
Artist: Skrillex
Song Title: Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites (Zedd Remix)
Genre: Electro
Description: I'm going to go ahead and say it. I'm not a huge fan of Skrillex. I tried to give him a chance when he signed to mau5trap with one of my favorite artists, Deadmau5, but to no avail. Then I heard this remix and realized that 'Zedd' is a genius. He took a less-than-half-decent dubstep track and made it into an amazing electro house track. By just adding a house beat and mixing some of this with some of that, he has come out with this amazing track. This isn't the only remix he's done either. He also remixed Skrillex's 'Weekends!!!' and made that much better too. If you want to check out more of his stuff you can check out his myspace here or his soundcloud here.

Well thats all for today. Hope you enjoyed!

Peace.

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

December 22, 2010

Due to the lack of songs yesterday, here are 4 great tunes that I'm currently listening to.

The Roots - The Fire (Featuring John Legend)
Artist: The Roots
Song Title: The Fire
Genre: Hip Hop
Description: A great hip hop song by The Roots and John Legend. The song is about inspiration and the drive to succeed and every element supports this. Black Thought and John Legend make a great combination on the track, providing just the right amount of soul mixed with great lyrics and a great beat made by ?uestlove.

Ou Est Le Swimming Pool - Jackson's Last Stand (Rack & Ruin Remix)
Artist: Ou Est Le Swimming Pool
Song Title: Jackson's Last Stand (Rack & Ruin Remix)
Genre: Drum & Bass
Description: The original song is also something to check out, but I personally prefer the remix that Rack & Ruin have come out with. The vocals of the lead singer of 'Ou Est Le Swimming Pool' works well with the DnB elements that Rack & Ruin have added. Simply making the song slightly faster and adding more instrumental elements than the original makes this song a great listen.

Aceyalone & RJD2 - Supahero
Artist: Aceyalone & RJD2
Song Title: Supahero
Genre: Hip Hop
Description: I can't get enough of RJD2. His production skills are ridiculously good and he is by far one of the best producers in the hip hop 'game'. Honestly, every time I listen to this song I don't even listen to the lyrics because I'm completely taken in by the beat. But if you do make the effort to listen to the lyrics, they're not bad. In fact, they're actually pretty good and Aceyalone's rapping style or 'flow' if you will fits the beat perfectly to create a great unison and a great song in general.

Carte Blanche - Do! Do! Do! (Featuring Kid Sister) (Laidback Luke Remix)
Artist: Carte Blanche
Song Title: Do! Do! Do! (Featuring Kid Sister) (Laidback Luke Remix)
Genre: Electro
Description: Although Laidback Luke has come out with some absolutely brilliant songs in the past, I feel a compulsion to say that the majority of the songs that he remixes have the same formula. The 'drops' in his songs generally consist of taking a certain part of the song and changing the pitch along with heavy bass. Sometimes this formula really doesn't work, but this time it has. Laidback Luke really comes hard on this track, creating an guaranteed club hit. This will definitely have you jumping out of your chair.

That's all Folks!

Peace.

December 21, 2010

Don't have too much for today. A classic that everybody should love and a video which isn't really a song as much as it is a performance. But yeah, here you go.

RJD2 - Ghostwriter
Artist: RJD2
Song Title: Ghostwriter
Genre: Hip Hop/Instrumental
Description: Honestly, this really is hip hop production and sampling at its best. RJD2 is a hugely respected producer and this is his Mona Lisa. It's perfect. The calm mellow beat and the guitar work perfectly and when the horns come in? Eargasm.

Kanye West, Common, Big Sean, Pusha T and CyHi Da Prince Freestyle
Artist: Kanye West, Common, Big Sean, Pusha T, CyHi Da Prince, and DJ Premier
Song Title: None (Freestyle Cypher)
Genre: Hip Hop
Description: This isn't really a song as I mentioned before but the freestyle is pretty sick. With DJ Premier on the turntables and 5 great artists this freestyle is great. Not much else to say, but watch the video.

Thats what I have for today.

Peace.

December 20, 2010

New day, new songs to listen to. It seems like everyday I come across something new in my own iTunes library and I love it. I've started to list down all the songs that I plan on putting on this blog, and I just wanna put them all up at once. But no. You'll have to wait. I have 5 new songs today, and they're all different genres, just to show that I don't stick to only one. Here you go:

Wake Up and Smell the Millennium - Nobody
Artist: Nobody
Song Title: Wake Up and Smell the Millennium
Genre: Electronic/Alternative
Description: If you go to the youtube video, all you'll see is tons of comments about what drugs people were on when they listened to this song. But its appropriate in some kind of weird way because this song just gives the vibe of being high on something. What I love about this song is that it has a hip-hop beat with a soothing-ish background which just works. I can't even explain it, but it really does. The most appropriate time to listen to this song would either be when you're tripping balls on something or when you just wake up.

Relax - The Tone
Artist: The Tone
Song Title: Relax
Genre: Lounge
Description: From experience, I can honestly say that this is one of the best songs to listen to in the morning after a night out. If you have a hangover or just feel like shit, put this on, light up a cigarette and drink a nice cup of coffee and you'll be fine in no time. Yes, it is a cover of Mika's song 'Relax, Take it Easy' but this is the Ibiza Chill Out cover. And for some reason, whenever you put Ibiza or Chill Out into the equation for a cover or remix, it just works. Just like this song. It just works.

Catgroove - Parov Stelar
Artist: Parov Stelar
Song Title: Catgroove
Genre: Dance
Description: Before 'We No Speak Americano' made sampling old songs from the 50's popular, Parov Stelar came out with this magnificent track. Yeah I said magnificent. It really is. As it starts you really don't know what to expect, but when it 'drops' you'll definitely find yourself bobbing your head or tapping your foot or whatever. It just makes you wanna move to the beat and forgive me for being repetitive, but its uplifting. I don't know how or why, it just is.

What A Job This Is (Featuring Snoop Dogg and Andre 3000) - Devin the Dude
Artist: Devin the Dude
Song Title: What A Job This Is
Genre: Hip Hop
Description: This song has been out for a while now, but Devin the Dude hasn't been getting too much attention from the mainstream. This song is the reason that he should be. This ballad about the music industry by Devin, Snoop and Andre 3000 is sick. Its so good its ridiculous. The hip hop beat in the background compliments the acoustic guitar perfectly, which in turn compliments the voices of the artists as well. All three artists talk about how hard it is to actually live the life that they do, due to the phenomenon of downloading and all this. But who am I to say anything, I downloaded this for free too.

Dynasty (Featuring Haley) (Dada Life Remix) - Kaskade
Artist: Kaskade
Song Title: Dynasty (Dada Life Remix)
Genre: Electro House
Description: To finish off today's post I've decided to have something not as 'chill' as the other songs. This is definitely a club banger. The original song is good, but the Dada Life remix is absolutely ridiculous. I don't think there's anymore that I can really say about the song. Haley's voice is entrancing, the beat makes you jump and the entire tune just comes together to make one of the craziest club songs I've heard in a while.

Well that's all for today, hope you enjoy.

Peace.

December 19, 2010

Due to popular demand (1-2 people) I'm creating this music blog. I'm not some indie hipster who will force you to listen to what I listen to, nor will I critique anybody on what kind of music they like. This blog is just to share some of my music tastes with whoever wants to listen. The idea of this blog is to post the songs I'm currently listening to or am obsessed with. They might have come out today, or they may be 15 years old. Either way, the plan is to post between 1 and 10 songs everyday on this blog. If you're interested, lovely. If you don't like the music I post? I don't care. Anyways some of the songs I'm currently listening to are:

Underworld - Scribble
Artist: Underworld
Song Title: Scribble
Genre: Drum and Bass
Description: This is by far one of the happiest songs I've ever heard. If you're feeling depressed and your pre-pubescent problems or Twilight-ish teenage angst is getting the better of you, then this is the song for you. The only lyrics throughout the entire song (basically) are "And its okay" and "You give me everything I need". What more do you need in an uplifting song? A great beat, which this song definitely has. Drum and bass fan or not, you'll like this song.

Torrential Pain (Feat Moocha) - Klute
Artist: Klute
Song Title: Torrential Pain
Genre: Drum and Bass
Description: Now as you can probably guess from the title of the song, its not all buckets of laughs and happy thoughts. The song itself isn't really depressing, it's more morose. What it is that has me hooked is Moocha's voice. Her voice is so different from anything I've ever heard that I just keep listening to the song over and over. It's haunting. If you want to listen to more of her stuff, you can visit her site here.

Both songs are Drum and Bass but not all songs posted here will be drum and bass, rest assured. Well that's all right now. Also if anybody wants to tell me about any songs, I am very open to broadening my musical horizons and listening to great new tracks.

Peace.
